Review: 2012 Juno Awards

April 1, 2012 |

Last night (Saturday, March 31) the Juno Gala, the un-televised portion of the awards were held. Most of the awards are given out at this dinner, which allows tonight’s broadcast to concentrate on artist performances. Winners going into tonight’s broadcast include:  Feist, Drake, Melanie Fiona, The Sheepdogs, Dan Mangan, Hedley, Malajube, and Arkells for Group of the Year beating out both Nickelback & Hedley.

It’s unfortunate that the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award is not presented during the televised portion of the awards. This year the recipient for the award is Simple Plan.  Whether you like the band or not, it’s hard not to acknowledge that they are the youngest artists to win this award and have given over $750,000 to support youth-focused charities.  The award sends a powerful message and it’s a shame that it’s not televised.

So now here we are waiting for the televised awards to start.  It sucks that we can’t see the red carpet live, unless we watch via the internet, how the heck are we supposed to judge people’s fashion tastes before the awards start….isn’t that one of the main traditions of watching an awards show?  AND tonight is the debut Game of Thrones Season 2….thank goodness for time shifting.  Oh well… we go….
